Patty Townsend
Director
of YOGA CENTER AMHERST, and the developer of EMBODYOGA™ In-Depth
Study & Teacher Training Programs. She has synthesized more
than 35 years of knowledge, personal practice, and teaching experience
into this highly educational, deeply experiential and inspiring
program. Patty was among the first wave of teacher–trainers
in the U.S. while in residence at the Center for Yoga, Los Angeles
in 1985 and later as co–owner of Yoga Works, Santa Monica.
Patty has practiced series 1, 2 and 3 of Ashtanga Vinyasa and has
studied seriously with many of the world’s foremost Yoga teachers.
Primary teachers have been Ana Forrest, Angela Farmer, Aadil Palkhivala
and Richard Freeman. Patty currently studies with Bonnie Bainbridge
Cohen.
Patty’s breath and awareness centered teaching approaches
asana and vinyasa practice as an expression of consciousness, and
as fertile ground for gaining self–knowledge and increasing
awareness of Source. Her teaching incorporates a deep knowledge
of alignment that is profoundly influenced by the innovative approach
to consciousness and full embodiment that is presented by Bonnie
Bainbridge Cohen of the School for Body–Mind Centering®.
Patty has completed certificate programs in Embodied Anatomy™
and Embodied Developmental Movement™ in the Teaching of Yoga.
Patty is a teacher of Tantric Mantra Meditation and
has maintained a daily practice of postures, pranayama and meditation
for more than 35 years. She brings a strong understanding of all
aspects of Yoga practice and philosophy to this rich curriculum
for training teachers.
The designing and teaching of this program is an act of love, and
Patty offers her gratitude to all of her wonderful teachers.
Mark Hart
Mark
Hart has practiced Insight Meditation for more than 20 years and
taught for over 15 years. He holds a Master of Counseling degree
and a Ph.D in theology. He teaches religious studies publicly and
has a private psychotherapy practice in Amherst. Mark’s instruction
in meditation is skillful, clear and pertinent to our practice and
our lives. In his sessions with us, Mark emphasizes “seeing
clearly”, which is supportive and thematic to the entire program.
