Eating disorders are never a food problem. They are problems of awareness, serious disturbances in our perception of Self.
In this workshop we will explore Embodyoga® principles and practices that assist our students, and ourselves, in finding the deep comfort inherent in the body. For people with eating disorders, there is a fundamental disconnect from the body-mind system which hinders the ability to nourish, nurture and thrive. People can get stuck in behaviors and patterns of thought that are not useful or healthy.
Embodyoga® philosophy, practices and sequences can help to open this communication between body and mind. We will also explore how language, class structure, class dynamics, and body awareness can help students find the the wisdom of the body they may not trust or feel, and rediscover the ability to find comfort from within.
This workshop is for yoga teachers and experienced students. It is an introduction to teaching and practicing yoga with a focus on practices of awareness and embodiment that can be helpful in averting disordered eating. It is not intended as a therapeutic session for active eating disorders.
