our teachers | Laura Markus
| Laura Markus began teaching yoga in New York City in 2002 after receiving her certification from Manhattan’s OM Yoga Center, and is very happy to bring her unique style of vinyasa yoga to Yoga Center Amherst.
A highly trained and enthusiastic teacher, Laura has also been certified to teach restorative and prenatal yoga, has completed an advanced teacher training with Rodney Yee, and is a practitioner of Thai yoga massage.
Though she is continually seeking to expand her knowledge of yoga by studying with master teachers, her greatest source of inspiration for her teaching comes from her students and her own personal yoga practice. Known as a playful and compassionate teacher with a nurturing spirit, Laura’s teaching focuses on cultivating mindfulness while coordinating movement with breath, creating the experience of an invigorating yet soothing meditation in motion.
She strives to give the experience of a safe yet challenging yoga practice to all levels of students, encouraging them to explore the inner workings of their own bodies and minds while honoring and accepting themselves as they are in each moment.
In Laura’s class you can expect lots of intelligently sequenced and creative vinyasa flow, emphasizing strengthening and deeply opening the body while exploring how the breath can guide the body into proper alignment.
She is extremely happy and grateful to be able to dedicate much of her time to the practice of yoga and is deeply honored to act as a guide to others who journey along the same path. |
