our teachers | Lucy Gertz

Lucy Gertz’s approach to Kids Yoga is engaging, lively, playful and fun while also emphasizing the union of body, mind and breath. Kids learn yoga postures, work in partners, play games and move to music. Kids gain a solid foundation in yoga, learn basic anatomy, physiology, and mindfulness practices. They are given experiences and tools to develop a better sense of themselves, increase body-mind integration and maximize coordination. Lucy is an excellent listener who really wants to hear what kids have to say.

Lucy is a graduate of the Embodyoga™ teacher training and a student of Patty Townsend since 1996. She has worked with children in public school, after-school and early intervention programs. Lucy has studied teaching yoga to Kids with Marcia Monroe and Shakta Kaur Khalsa. She is strongly influenced by the developmental patterns presented by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen’s Body-Mind Centering approach as a method to promote integration of the child’s nervous system. In addition to teaching yoga to kids, Lucy works with autistic toddlers and is developing a parent coaching practice. She can be reached at lgertz@gmail.com.

Lucy has completed The Samarya Center's Integrated Movement Therapy and the Child, Level 2 www.samaryacenter.org
